| At the time of dispatch, Command 17 was already operating on a medical assist within the township and immediately cleared that incident to respond directly to the reported fire. Quint 17 and Engine Tanker 17 responded from the station shortly after the initial alert.
Command 17 arrived on scene and quickly confirmed a working fire with extension into the walls and attic area of the residence. Acting swiftly, crew members from Command 17 deployed a water can and were able to knock down the bulk of the visible fire prior to the arrival of additional apparatus.
Engine Tanker 18 and Quint 17 arrived shortly thereafter. Crews from Quint 17 and Engine Tanker 17 split assignments, working seamlessly with mutual aid companies. Firefighters deployed a 1¾-inch handline from Engine Tanker 18 to continue interior fire suppression while additional crews placed ground ladders and accessed the roof to begin ventilation operations and check for further fire extension. At the same time, Engine Tanker 19 ( Grassflat Volunteer Fire Company ) established a water supply to support sustained firefighting operations.
Due to the quick actions of Command 17 and the coordinated efforts of all responding companies, crews were able to contain the fire primarily to one wall surrounding a fireplace and to the attic space.
Their aggressive interior attack and ventilation efforts resulted in a significant save of the residence and prevented further damage. |
